The 5 Best Markers for Coloring

The 5 Best Markers for Coloring

A child colors an intricate design featuring a character on roller skates, surrounded by a variety of coloring books and markers on the table.

I’m often asked about the best markers for coloring.

As a lifelong coloring enthusiast and owner of a coloring book company, I’ve tried many. Picking just one favorite is impossible, so I’ve narrowed it down to my top 5 marker sets! 🖐️

Each item on the list includes an affiliate link, meaning we earn a small commission if you click through and make a purchase. But rest assured, none of these companies are paying me to mention them – these are my true favorites!

Ohuhu Water-Based Markers

These markers won’t bleed through the page, and they’re dual tip - one side’s great for coloring larger spaces, the other’s great for details. The case they come in can hold 4 mini coloring books laid flat, it’s sturdy enough to double as a laptop tray, and it’s perfect for travel since each marker is kept in place with an elastic band.

Grabie Acrylic Paint Pens

These pens take me back to my childhood! They have a pump-action tip for ink flow, won’t bleed through the page, and dry with a shimmery finish in just 30 seconds. Their super fine tip is great for adding sparkle to small details.

Paper Mate Flair Tip Pens

These versatile pens won’t bleed through the page, and they’re great for both coloring and everyday office use. If you like to color at work but want to be discreet, these are perfect for you.

Ohuhu Alcohol Markers

Though alcohol-based markers do bleed through pages, they’re favored by many artists for their streak-free finish and blending/shading capabilities. Check out the amazing pictures my talented brother-in-law colored with alcohol markers (below). If you want to be super extra, opt for the 320 pack!

Shuttle Art Gel Pens

These gel pens are another dual-purpose option, perfect for both coloring and office use. They won’t bleed through the page and were even featured in our first-ever subscription box! Some of you may already have a set of these at home.

Markers are my go-to coloring tool of choice, but if you’re a fan of watercolors, colored pencils, or gel crayons, these sets are super popular.

After you pick the perfect markers, don't forget to stock up on coloring books too!

Happy coloring,

Shanti
